Where theres smoke there is well a GTB ESC

My GTB ESC just went up in smoke! Unbelivable, this thing is a fire hazard. Very disappointing since i have not event had it that long. It smells like burnt plastic now. I cannot understand how this happened, i was running on tarmac the motor didnt even get hot. when all of a sudden, a cloud of smoke came out of it. This must have been a manufacturing fault of some kind, i believe, the ESC has thermal protection as well as the motor. Starting to wonder if i should have got a Mamba system........

Hey mate hows it going apart from de brushless,Oh shit i think u may have done the same as me what running gear are u using???is it stock tamiya stuff?i used stock tamiya stuff in my df02 and my smoked and went bust this is from OVERGEARING i have learned the hard way and have to get my 8.5 fixed by australians now.

And about going mamba i dont see what the big deal is they are practically the same but Novak has better service and reliability and if u did get a mamba and did the same u would have had the same outcome.

goto Novaks website and ask them about fixing it and does it still work at all????

    cheers and cya

Aside from the ESC blowing up it's going good mate, I'm using 16t pinion with 70t spur running on the 3.5R motor which is somewhat overgeared, although my tires are completely bald so the diammeter is considerably less than most buggy tires. What i don't understand is, the motor was not even hot at all, also the fact that the GTB has a cooling fan as well plus thermal overload protection, but it could be a simple case of overgearing well I'm sure that is what Novak will probably say. I thought the worst case scenario would be, ok motor gets hot, shuts down or ESC gets hot shuts down.
It doesn't work at all, if you hook it up to the battery, smoke instantly starts comming out of it, (with the ESC switch off) when you turn on the ESC switch the battery starts smoking (like a short circuit condition) so it is pretty much useless.
From what i've read the mamba sounds like it is more torquey so it should cope better with overgearing in theory wouldnt it?

Hiya. Bugger aye... Yeah, sounds like a manufacturing fault and you should contact the Manufacturer. They usually look after you. Cheers.

    Hello

Sorry to hear about your Novak 3.5 Brushless. Sounds like a case of overgearing. The problem with Novak systems is that they are gearing dependent. Im surprised the thermal didn't kick in. Oh well you have the 120 day warranty that Novak have for its customers.

As for the mamba its got heaps of potential and you can run up to 12 cells with it or 4S lipos. I read in an review that they got 58 mph out of a Losi buggy using 4S lipos..

My E-Maxx will get mamba when I come back from the UK. I'll probably have a Revo converted to brushless as the Revo can handle more abuse.
